A United Nations (UN) human rights expert has called on Colombia to suspend some operations at the El Cerrejón mine due to activities at the mine causing damage to the environment and the health of Colombia’s largest indigenous community, the Wayúu peoples.

Poland reportedly expects EC to approve coal mines closure plan

The European Commission (EC) is reportedly expected to give consent to a plan to gradually close mines owned by Poland-based coal producing company PGG.

Nornickel signs support package with indigenous peoples

Russian miner Nornickel announced that it has signed cooperation agreements with three organisations representing the indigenous peoples of the Taimyr Peninsula in the Far North of Russia. The company has several operations in the region and has been criticised by indigenous peoples for its activities.
