Showcasing its experience in delivering a full suite of security and safety solutions for the mining sector, ADT Security Australia’s commercial division partnered with Gallagher Security and Hexagon Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial at the recent International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC25) at Sydney.

Group general manager, ADT Security, Geoff Campbell-Brown described the exhibition as an opportunity to engage with businesses across the mining sector.

“ADT Security has worked in the mining space for more than 20 years,” Geoff said. “Our Commercial Security experts work hand-in-hand with leading technology partners like Gallagher Security and Hexagon to deliver leading, mine-compliant solutions that span the breadth of the mining industry.”

Discussing its recent successes, Geoff explains ADT Security’s strength is in the design and integration of scalable, resilient security and safety solutions for major mining facilities, camps and refineries, as well as suppliers to the mining industry.

“In recent years ADT has delivered commercial security solutions for mine operations across Australia,” he said. “These solutions spanned the breadth of mining security requirements, including integrated CCTV and cloud-based video analytics, fit-for-work and fatigue management safety solutions, access control, including software, hardware and competency-based access controls, as well as perimeter monitoring, LiDAR and remote location security.”

“Our commercial security team works with the client to assess the needs of the site and recommend solutions which work together to respond to safety needs, now and into the future,” said Geoff.

In Australia, ADT Security provide security solutions to steelmaking coal mines in Queensland. In a major security upgrade, a recently completed project sought to integrate security, safety and compliance across its various operations.

The deployment by ADT Security included:

Access control to site

More than 300 doors, turnstiles, entry and boom gates underwent replacement across five Queensland mine sites, upgrading aging physical infrastructure and integrating compliance monitoring with access control. The ADT solution utilised Gallagher Security access control with RightCrowd workforce management to introduce consistency in management of entry, compliance and competency for all sites. A simple red, amber, green signal structure was introduced for uniformity, with RightCrowd workforce management solution supporting compliance and reporting in the background managing access to restricted and high-risk areas, data centres, administration buildings, warehouse, labs, stores, and workshops. The solution introduced a simple, scalable access control solution for the uniform management of daily mine site operations.

Camp access control

Adjacent to the mine site upgrade, the mine camp accommodation underwent a significant upgrade as it transitioned from an aging access control system to a state of the art SALTO access control solution for a cost-effective, electronic access control through data-on-card, wireless, and Bluetooth® technology. The project aims to improve worker safety and security through the modernisation of more than 2,500 camp doors.

Integrating existing workforce management solution, RightCrowd, with physical access control infrastructure, the ADT commercial security team was able to orchestrate a seamless solution for the management of workforce qualifications, certifications, and competency. In addition, the solution supports the enforcement of drug and alcohol selection testing, tracking and reporting alongside the company’s internal drug and alcohol protocols, enhancing compliance reporting solutions.

Wireless mobile access points

In an environment where down-time can mean significant cost to operators, ADT developed an innovative Wireless Mobile Access Control solution to ensure access points were never impeded by security upgrade works. This wireless mobile access point solution mimics a perimeter area, facilitating tagging on and off, and integrating with compliance software as if it were a turnstile. The battery-operated solution offers an opportunity for a local authorisation site to be established where a permanent access point is not usually required, or where standard security arrangements are offline. The wireless solution is able to be mobilised in remote locations through LTE access. The units have since been deployed for shutdowns and temporarily in high-risk areas. The solution, while designed to be deployed during the major security upgrade without impacting the ingress and egress flow of traffic and personnel, has since been more widely deployed due to its effectiveness and connectivity.

ADT Commercial Security’s centralised engineering and local delivery teams ensured integration, scalability, and minimal disruption. The result was enhanced surveillance, integrated safety, and strong local engagement across the sites.
